Marine Flora of French Polynesia: An Updated List Using DNA Barcoding and Traditional Approaches

چکیده
Located in the heart of South Pacific Ocean, French Polynesian islands represent a remarkable setting for biological colonization and diversification, because their isolation. Our knowledge this region’s biodiversity is nevertheless still incomplete many groups organisms. In late 1990s 2000s, series publications provided first checklists marine algae, including Chlorophyta, Rhodophyta, Ochrophyta, Cyanobacteria, established mostly on traditional morphology-based taxonomy. We initiated project to systematically DNA barcode flora Polynesia. Based large collection ~2452 specimens, made between 2014 2023, across five archipelagos, we re-assessed floral species diversity (Alismatales, Chlorophyta) using barcoding concert with classification. provide here major revision flora, an updated listing 702 119 169 92 320 2 seagrass species—nearly two-fold increase from previous estimates. This study significantly improves our provides valuable reference library identification purposes future taxonomic conservation studies. A significant part uncovered Polynesia corresponds unidentified lineages, which will require careful investigation.

DNA barcoding of marine metazoa.
More than 230,000 known species representing 31 metazoan phyla populate the world's oceans. Perhaps another 1,000,000 or more species remain to be discovered. There is reason for concern that species extinctions may out-pace discovery, especially in diverse and endangered marine habitats such as coral reefs. DNA barcodes (i.e., short DNA sequences for species recognition and discrimination) are...

DNA barcoding has been adopted as a global bio-identification system for animals in recent years. A major national programme on DNA barcoding of fish and marine life was initiated in India by the authors during 2006 and 115 species of marine fish covering Carangids, Clupeids, Scombrids, Groupers, Sciaenids, Silverbellies, Mullids, Polynemids and Silurids representing 79 Genera and 37 Families f...

متن کاملThe use of DNA barcoding to monitor the marine mammal biodiversity along the French Atlantic coast
In the last ten years, 14 species of cetaceans and five species of pinnipeds stranded along the Atlantic coast of Brittany in the North West of France. All species included, an average of 150 animals strand each year in this area. Based on reports from the stranding network operating along this coast, the most common stranding events comprise six cetacean species (Delphinus delphis, Tursiops tr...
